The 2019 Bay Area International Chess Tournament runs from Jan 1-7, 2019, in Burlingame, California, USA.
BayAreaChess is co-organizing this tournament open to players with FIDE Ratings above 2000, and to ensure players have good chances to make GM norms, a maximum of one-third of the total field will be permitted to be under 2200 FIDE.
The Bay Area International begins only a couple of days after the Pan American Intercollegiate (in the same hotel) so it should attract the strongest college students as well as players ringing in the New Year in Las Vegas at the North American Open.
A prize fund of USD $13,000 is guaranteed with $5,000 for first place.
The tournament takes place at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport.
With the relaxed seven day schedule, there should be ample opportunity for players to tour one of the USA's most popular cities; five days of the tournament have only one game.
The time control is 40/90, SD/30 with 30 second increment.
