The World Junior Chess Championship is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world and out of all the champions, 4 has even made it to the World Championships.
This tournament is organised by every World Chess Federation, for open and U-20 Girls category where the player must be 20 years of age or less on 1st January in the year of competition. It began in the year 1951 at Birmingham, England every two years untill 1973 and then happened every year. In 1983, a separate tournament for girls was introduced. Every FIDE member nation may give one entry except for the host and seeding is done based on the elo ratings and the performance of the players based on their previous championships.
Title of Grandmaster and Woman Grandmaster is awarded to the winners in both the categories and Runner ups receive the titles of International Master and Woman International Grandmaster.
The tournament will be played according to the Swiss System in 11 rounds.
The time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from the 1st move.
No draw offers are allowed before 30 moves by both players.
