The traditional Christmas Nutcracker tournament is taking place in the Central Chess Club in Moscow from 19-24 December.
It consists of two Scheveningen matches: Kings vs. Princes and Queens vs. Princesses.
In the main event Gelfand, Rublevsky, Shirov and Mamedyarov take on Yuffa, Esipenko, Artemiev and Oparin.
Each player first plays a classical game (90 minutes/40 moves + a 30-second increment from move 1) against each member of the opposing team. Then they play two rapid games (15 minutes/all moves + a 10-second increment) against each opposing player. The classical games are worth double i.e. 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.
