The Limhamn Chess Club is proud to invite the players, the chess audience, the media and the sponsors to the 26th annual Tepe Sigeman Chess Tournament. The tournament will take place at the Elite Plaza Hotel in central Malmo. Just like last time, eight players will play seven rounds, and as usual, the field is outstanding!
Swedish no. 1, GM Nils Grandelius (winner in 2013, 2017 and 2018), will face a strong field with a mix of young and more experienced participants.
A strong contender will be Dutch GM Jorden van Foreest, who in January this year won one of the world’s strongest chess tournaments, the Tata Steel Chess Tournament, ahead of world champion Magnus Carlsen and a number of the other top 10 players in the world.
The winner of the 2019 edition, GM Gawain Jones from England is back! We have also no one less than former world championship challenger and legend, GM Nigel Short. The strong frenchman GM Etienne Bacrot will for sure also be one of the contenders for first place.
Three of the participants are both young (all of them happen to be born in 2004) and extremely promising. GM Nihal Sarin, from the strong chess country India, has made rapid and steady progress the last few years. It is also our pleasure to welcome GM Vincent Keymer from Germany and GM Jonas Buhl Bjerre from Denmark. Both of them are back from the recently held European Championship in Reykjavik where Vincent surprisingly shared first place and Jonas (22nd) managed to qualify for the next World Cup.
Time control: 100 minutes for 40 moves, plus 50 minutes for 20 moves, plus 15 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move 1.
The Sofia rule will be applied (no draw offers before Black’s 30th move).
